Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot Fails in Bid for Reelection as Challengers Vallas and Johnson Head to Runoff

Chicago voters have ended Mayor Lori Lightfoot's bid for re-election as two challengers, Paul Vallas and Bob Fioretti, have advanced to the April runoff.

With nearly all the votes counted, Vallas and Fioretti each received about 20% of the vote, with Lightfoot trailing behind with just 10%. The results come after a challenging year for Lightfoot, who has faced criticism for her handling of issues such as gun violence and police reform.

Both Vallas and Fioretti have criticized Lightfoot's record and promised to bring change to the city if elected. The runoff election is scheduled for April 25.
