"Kentucky Governor Declares State of Emergency as Severe Storms Approach"

Governor Andy Beshear of Kentucky has declared a state of emergency in the state as a major winter storm is expected to hit the region.

The governor announced on Thursday that the state of emergency is effective immediately and will allow the National Guard to be activated if needed.

The storm, which is expected to bring heavy snow and ice to Kentucky, has already caused several states in the Midwest to declare emergencies, with officials urging residents to stay off the roads and prepare for power outages.

The National Weather Service has issued winter storm warnings and watches for parts of Kentucky and surrounding states, with forecasters predicting that the storm could bring up to a foot of snow in some areas.

Beshear has also urged Kentuckians to prepare for the storm by stocking up on food, water, and other essentials, and to stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary.

The governor has also said that state agencies are preparing for the storm, with crews working to clear roads and keep critical infrastructure functioning.
