Sheryl Sandberg says she’s leaving Meta’s board

Sandberg leaves Meta board: Former Meta operating chief Sheryl Sandberg announced that she will not stand for reelection to the company’s board of directors in May 2024, after serving as a board member for 12 years and as COO for 14 ½ years.

Meta’s controversies and transition: Sandberg’s departure from Meta follows multiple controversies that tarnished the company’s reputation and led to antitrust investigations and public scrutiny. She was replaced by Javier Olivan as COO in June 2022 and remained on the board to ensure a smooth transition1.
Sandberg’s new chapter: Since leaving Meta, Sandberg has focused on her LeanIn.org nonprofit, which aims to empower women in the workplace, and related projects2. She said she wanted to make a difference in her new chapter and will serve as an advisor to Meta.

Zuckerberg’s gratitude: Meta CEO and chairman Mark Zuckerberg thanked Sandberg for her extraordinary contributions and guidance to the company and community over the years3. He said he looked forward to the next chapter together and praised her as a visionary leader and a friend.
