"Deadly Train Collision in Greece Leaves Dozens Dead and Injures Many More"

On February 28, 2023, two trains collided head-on in Northern Greece, causing at least 42 deaths and dozens of injuries.

The crash occurred on a single track section of the railway between Thessaloniki and Alexandroupolis, near the town of Serres.

The cause of the accident is still unclear, but it is believed to have been a result of a signaling error or a human error.

Rescuers worked throughout the night to pull people from the wreckage, and injured people were transported to nearby hospitals.

The Prime Minister of Greece, Kiriakos Mitsotakis, offered his condolences to the families of the victims and promised a thorough investigation into the cause of the crash.

The incident has led to calls for improved railway safety measures in Greece, as the country's railway system has been criticized in the past for its lack of maintenance and infrastructure investment.
